Q&A: What should I do if...?

I am absent from school?

Your parent/carer will need to phone school (02380 328200) and choose the absence line option. They must call in the morning and tell us your full name, tutor group, reason for absence and call each day you are away. Alternatively, they can email attendance@st-annes.uk.com.  Sixth Formers should follow their own system.

I arrive late at school late?

If you arrive between 8.40-9am, you must sign in at the gate with the member of staff on duty.

If you arrive after 9am, the gate will be closed so you must sign in at reception.

If you are late, you will have to attend a 10 minute detention after school.

I have a dental/medical/other appointment?

Appointments should be made out of school time.

If you arrive late from an appointment or need to leave school for an appointment, your parent/carer should write and sign a note in your planner and this must be signed by your head of year or Pastoral Support Worker in the hub.

You must be picked-up by your parent/carer. You will not be allowed under any circumstances to leave school without your parent/carer collecting you from reception. An exception may be made at the discretion of their Head of Year, for certain Year 11 pupils who have career/college appointments.

I need to go on holiday during term time?

The Governors do not allow holidays in term time. If you need to miss school, you need to collect a leave of absence form from the hub (or reception for parents/carers) and return it to the hub.

I arrive in school before 8.30am?

From 8am, you can go to: the vestibule, canteen, library, IT room, or playground. Please do not arrive before 8am.

I have forgotten something to bring to school?

If you have forgotten equipment or homework, explain to your tutor or subject teacher at registration or the beginning of the lesson. You may receive a behaviour point for not being equipped, so try to pack your bag the night before to avoid this!

I need a locker?

We recommend every pupil has a locker and therefore we have enough for every pupil.

You can purchase this on Scopay and the cost is £10 and this is for your whole time at St Anne’s.

This allows an opportunity for you to store your valuables, books, PE kit, extra equipment and so on.

I have forgotten/lost my locker key?

If you have forgotten your locker key you will not be able to access your locker so please make sure you keep it somewhere safe and bring it to school.

If you have lost it, replacement keys are £10 and can be purchased through Scopay.

I forget my PE kit?

Go to the PE office with your planner where you will be given a spare kit to wear.

You will then be issued with a break-time detention.

I don’t feel well while at school?

If you feel unwell at school, you must tell your teacher (if in class) who may suggest that you go to the hub. You are not to call your parents. Please keep water with you as slow sips often help.

I’ve had an accident and need first aid?

You must tell a member of staff immediately who will assist you to getting the appropriate help.

I need to take medication?

Your parent/carer will be asked to complete a medical form at the start of September (or when you start at St Anne’s).

Please make sure, if there are any changes, you let the school know immediately.

No medication must be brought to the school unless accompanied by a letter from your parent/carer which should be shown to Mrs Kent in the admin office. This includes paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Prescribed medication must be in its original labelled box and you must give this to Mrs Kent in the admin office, accompanied by a letter from your parents/carer.

You may keep your inhaler on you and any emergency allergy medication including EpiPens.

I have started my period?

We have sanitary products at reception and the pastoral hub (in the red box outside the hub toilet). It’s always good to keep a spare pair of pants and tights in your locker during this time, just in case. If you don’t have these with you, pop to the nurture room for tights and the hub for pants.

Please come to the pastoral hub if you are in need: we will always help you!

I have lost something in school?

Firstly, retrace your steps for the whole day and check the area thoroughly.

Check lost property which is located downstairs in the corridors near the photocopying room.

(Sometimes it can take a bit of time for items to reach lost property so check the next day.)

If it is a valuable item, check reception and the Hub.

Please note that you should not bring money or valuables into school unless you need them. The school cannot accept responsibility for their loss.

Anything you do bring, please make sure it is named/labelled.

I have lost my planner?

Your parent/carer will need to purchase a new one on Scopay for £3.

I lose my library book?

Do not worry. Go to see the Librarian, Miss Vlismas, as soon as possible to inform her.

I have had something confiscated?

Sometimes pupils make poor choices and bring things into school which should remain at home. If an item is confiscated, the member of staff will tell you where and when you may collect the item.

Phones seen for any reason, even if not being used, will be confiscated and will be returned at the end of the day.

Jewellery will be returned on a Tuesday after school in the Hub.

Check your planner for details of sanctions for multiple confiscations.

I need the toilet during lesson?

Firstly, remember to go during the break times. If you desperately have to go during lessons, ask your teacher who will write in your planner on the ‘permission to leave lesson’ page.

I am feeling upset/worried?

Firstly, remember that this feeling isn’t permanent. Sometimes it will be enough to talk to a friend but if not, you can go to room 61 at lunch time where we have some trained pupils available to help with friendship worries. Alternatively, you can speak to any member of staff such as: your tutor, a teacher, Head of Year, Pastoral Support Worker.

If you are struggling with talking about it, we have ‘worry boxes’ placed around the school in these locations: quad, vestibule, playground. You can write your worry down, just remember to write your name so that we can get you the help you need. There are also a ‘worried about something’ section in the contact part of the school website.

I need to use my mobile phone?

Mobile phones are not allowed to be visible on the school site at any time. They must be switched off and in bags or locker. They will be confiscated (taken and stored safely) if seen. If you need to make urgent contact with home, go to the Hub.

I get lost?

You will get lost at St Anne’s! Ask any member of staff or pupil and they will help you.

I don’t have the correct uniform?

St Anne’s uniform can be purchased from Skoolkit and Koolskools, this includes PE kit.

If you come to school in the incorrect uniform, you will be sent to the hub in order to borrow the correct uniform for the day. Please make sure this is washed upon return.

Your parents can also buy pre-loved school uniform on Scotty. Once purchased, this can be picked up from the finance office which is accessed via the admin office.

I need support with homework?

Homework club is open 3.30pm-4.30pm Monday-Thursday in the Library (occasionally it may be necessary to cancel this for staff training). There is also some good advice in your planner.

I want to pray?

Rooms are available for prayer outside of lesson time. Please ask your tutor for the updated room list.

I need a Scopay account?

Ask your parent/carer to e-mail info@st-annes.uk.com and request a link code letter or you can pick one up from Mrs Cruse in the Admin office.

I don’t have enough money/I am in debt on my SCOPay account?

Do not worry, you can still buy some lunch up to the value of £2.60 (this must be hot food not just snacks). Make sure you ask your parents/carer to top up your account.

Do not buy food for your friends. If they need something, advise them to go to the canteen for help.

I forget my lunch?

We will never let you go hungry; you can buy hot food on your Scopay account, even if in debt. Just make sure you ask your parents/carer to top up your account.

I have a food allergy?

If you have a food allergy please go to the canteen between 8am-8.40am to inform them.

I can't access Teams?

When using Teams for the first time, you need to log in when you are in school.

When logging on outside of school, check you have typed your email and password correctly. If logging in from school, you will be automatically logged into Teams.

If none of the above has solved this, ask your teacher to send a message IT who will reset your password for you.
