Students at St Anne’s Catholic
School & Sixth Form College are heading off to a host of top universities,
apprenticeships and employers after collectively securing a strong set of A
Level and BTEC results today.
Over 68% of students at the school
achieved A*- C grades, improving upon results in previous years. There were
also some real successes in individual subject areas, with 50% of Economics
students and a quarter of students studying Sociology gained A* or A grades. A
third of students studying English Language also gained A* or A grades and
Health and Social Care saw a quarter of students gaining a Distinction in the
BTEC course.
Julian Waterfield, Acting
Headteacher, said: “The atmosphere here today was joyful, and staff and
students can’t stop smiling.
“It’s wonderful to see our
students’ hard work pay off, and we all take real pride in the fact that they
have been able to flourish in our community. Our small class sizes and
personalised approach to learning has contributed to their successes.
“We are incredibly proud of them
all and know they have bright futures ahead.”
Among the smiling faces were close
friends Kimberly Coley and Anita Narduzzo. Kimberly and Anita have collectively
secured an impressive set of outcomes that will allow Anita to head to the
University of East Anglia to study history and Kimberley to go to Greenwich to
study Tourism Management.
Kimberley said: “I joined this
school from overseas in Year 8, and it has become a real home from home. I even
left to go to a different college but ended up coming back here as the support
is so strong.”
A strong number of students have
also opted to remain in or near Southampton for the next stage of their
education.
Wyanet Dias and Hannah Omari are
both going to Southampton University to study accounting and finance after
impressing in their relevant exams. Lucy Philips and Cassie Culley are also
going to Winchester to study primary education.
Trixie Waterfield, who secured an A* in sociology, is heading to York to
study the subject. She said: “I have loved my time at St Anne’s. It is a
brilliant place, and as excited as I am about the future – I will be really sad
to say farewell to this community.”
Julian added: “What I love about
this school is no matter what interests a young person, we will help them
explore their talents and develop the confidence to pursue their dreams. We
have students going all over the country to embark in a range of exciting
careers and education opportunities. That is testament to what we achieve as a
community.”
