Parent Update

Jun 2023

Dear Parents

We hope this brief update finds you well. The start of the final half term is full of exams for years 11 and 13, and we continue to be really impressed by how well they are approaching these. Our thanks too to the younger years for their calm conduct around the school site during changeover to keep things quiet for those taking exams.

As the weather continues to get warmer, a reminder that pupils do not need to wear jumpers or blazers in hot weather, and to bring in water bottles which, as long as it is safe to do so, their teacher allow out in lessons. Pupils are very much allowed to wear sun hats out in the playground at break and lunchtime and to apply sunscreen as they need to.

Early Closure

A reminder that it is an early closure day on Wednesday 14th June, finishing at 14:25 rather than 15:25.

Social tariffs for broadband

If you receive universal credit, pension credit, income support, income-based jobseeker's allowance or income-related employment support allowance, you are eligible for a social tariff for broadband, which is significantly cheaper than other packages.  It might be worth looking into this at this page.

Uniform policy on hair

We are proud that our uniform expectations are high and they have remained consistent for many years. The rules on hair remain that we require it to be neat and tidy and extreme styles, lengths and unnatural colours for children are not permitted.  If hair is long, appropriately coloured hair ties are required because students must be able to tie it back when requested.

We have listened to the views of students, families and staff about this and have decided not to alter the wording of our rules.  Girls with unnatural colours for children will be asked to correct their hair and those wearing extensions or beads in their hair will be asked to correct this.

The word 'extreme' applies to colour, shape or length (short or long).

We would remind you that, as in all schools, the school has the right to exercise its rules and we would suggest that if parents think there might be an issue with a proposed change of style, they should contact the relevant head of year before a decision is made or money is spent.

All the best
